Regarding that documentation you quoted, I posted that in my first response, and stated that it makes no sense to me. For one thing, it probably is a typo "reorg rebuild index_name" as there is no such command, and the verbage after that about "sufficient change... to affect "it's" plan choice" makes no sense to me either.
Reorg rebuild certainly does update column group stats for all indexes (as it effectively recreates those indexes), and I note also that "with statistics print_progress =1 " will also update minor attributes (if the sticky bit is set for it's stats).
Very gray areas all around, and probably needs some better clarification in the manuals as to how to absolutely avoid needing "update index" stats after either a "reorg rebuild", or drop/create index --- HKGC overruns and such due noted.
