Thanks for taking to time to look into this. I will try and address your questions in the order in which you raised them:

 

The long-running transaction is a 5-table join select into a temporary table.

 

This query runs once in the stored procedure.

 

Yes, both queries are working with exactly the same volume of data as the dump from PROD for the offending run was taken into a reporting environment.

 

I will capture the statistics and the contents of monProcessObjects as you suggested.

 

I have been working with Sybase since 1993 and we worked together for some time in MBNA in DE!

 

I had actually done a diff between the extraced execution plan from the stored procedure for this SQL and its stand-alone run. It was exactly the same.

 

Meanwhile, do you think session-level optimizer settings could be playing a significant role here?
