Re: ipcs -ma on Solaris not showing Sybase shared-memory segment

I reported a  similar issue a few months ago and it was identified as a bug to be fixed in CR 778706.  You might want to reference that CR with your tech support contact.

This happens only when ASE acquires a shared memory segment with ID of zero (0), which most likely happens immediately after a host system reboot, and then ASE is the first process to create a shared mem segment.  Try having ASE startup, then shut it down, and then startup again.  Or, have another program grab a shared mem segment before ASE starts up.  I have a short C program that will simply request a shared mem segment, then shutdown.  Tech support can also give you this util as well.    I beileve the culprit is actually the backupserver which runs as the same account as dataserver binary.  Backupserver is actually the process that removes the segment (although, the segment is not released by the OS until ASE shuts down, but it's annoying not to see it with ipcs).
