Of historical interest,AIX used to be different from all the other platforms in having the default value be 3 instead of 2000 as that value had given better performance for some reason. In 12.0.0.7, some changes were made and the default value was changed to 2000 matching all the other platforms.
I agree with the approach of trying different values and evaluating performance.
