Re: Sybase ASE 15.7 installation on Windows7 professional

Dilip,

Following Juergen's feedback about checking the open client log, I would find out if the install process went as far as starting to boot the ASE and I would check the messages in the ASE errorlog. They can indicate if the issue is related to insufficient ressources.

If you are installing on an x86 machine, eg 32 bit, perhaps you don't have sufficient memory for the install process and to start ASE. I would make sure to close all unnescessary applications prior to running the install and check how much memory is on the machine and how much is in use.

I tell you this because I had ASE 15.7 running on a Windows XP SP3 x86 box with 4 GB of memory. At some point I had to uninstall and re-install, and was never able to get it back up, after some Windows XP OS updates...

I would also check:

Please check the installer log file "C:\Sybase\log\ASE_Suite.log" and consult Sybase Customer Service & Support at http://www.sybase.com/support.

Finally, unless there is a reason why you want to install ASE 15.7, why don't you go straight to ASE 16.0, if you can find it in the download page.

Regards,

Jean-Pierre

P.S. Also, frankly as a result of this type of issue, I am in the process of getting an Amazon

Web services account, so I can run ASE in the cloud, access it from any PC, including a Windows XP x86 and not worry about anything but the client connection.  If you need info on this let me know
