Re: Sybase ASE load database command and placement of segments within devices

Hi Jack,

Thank you for the quick response!  I'm a bit confused though....

If I drop the partitions/segments before dumping my database, then I am dropping all of my data in my database.  The segments now belong to the qip_infra_partition1 and qip_system_partition1 devices, and contain data.

And I can't drop the devices, since that means I would have to drop the database.  Which again, dropping the database would mean getting rid of the data.

I am a software developer, and customer's use our software along with ASE 15.7.  The software application data is stored in partitions, which I mapped to specific segments.  I am looking for a good solution for customers to use the Sybase database dump and load commands to load their data into a newer version of our software product that has a slightly different device mapping for the segments.

Thanks,

Lisa
