Re: Sybase ASE 15 ODBC driver doesnot have the option of Translate as in...

Hi Pranav, Robert is on the correct track. Also, what exact version of ASE ODBC Driver? Sound like older 15.0 version.  Changes were made in the charset translation/conversion/handling since early 15.0...

Re: Need help in connecting/working with Chinese Sybase ASE database

Hi Said, I see this post in another SCN, but I am curious about why SQLTables isn't retrieving the data - can you elaborate?- What ASE ODBC Driver version- What sort of application details? Is it...

Re: getdate() vs. current_date() in a user-defined function in ASE 15.0.3

Hi Bret, Thanks for the explanation. So, if I am currently using current_date() in a UDF, merely because ASE 15.0.3 allows it, then I assume that would be a "bad idea". Because eventually I will be on...

Re: getdate() vs. current_date() in a user-defined function in ASE 15.0.3

Hi John, Strictly speaking, yes, I'd be cautious about making large bets that current_date() would continue to work.  However, engineering doesn't seem to be placing much priority on fixing the issue....

Re: getdate() vs. current_date() in a user-defined function in ASE 15.0.3

I haven't been able to find a clear explantion of why non-deterministic functions were considered a problem, just a few hints that it had something to do with optimization or execution.  My guess is...

Re: ASE 15 OLE DB client connection fails intermittently executing stored...

Hi Gary, Two things:You're using .NET 2003.  This is something antiquated and you should upgrade to newer Visual Studio environment. Probably has nothing to do with the problem but there are major...

Re: Need help in connecting/working with Chinese Sybase ASE database

Hi Said, You can enable the ODBC APOI tracing with the built-in Windows utility odbcad32.exe. First determine if you're using 32 or 64-bit ASE ODBC Driver. For 32-bit the odbcad32.exe resides in...

Re: ASE 15 OLE DB client connection fails intermittently executing stored...

If the cost of Visual Studio 2008/2012 is an issue, Gary should be able to use SharpDevelop (free).  AFAIK, Sybase doesn't care what the GUI development tool is as long as it uses a recent .NET SDK....

Thanks for the link correction.   The post is meant as a bit of good natured humor.  We're way too serious sometimes

Re: is it possible to have a trigger to detect delete in sysobjects.type='P' ?

ASE does not support DDL triggers (which is what you are referring to). More generally, it is not allowed to create triggers on system tables. To achieve what you're looking for, you can use the...

Re: is it possible to have a trigger to detect delete in sysobjects.type='P' ?

2 ideas: 1- allow people to only drop stored procedures by using a specific stored procedure or script. This SP or script will write a log which will help you to have an history 2- I wonder if the...

Re: is it possible to have a trigger to detect delete in sysobjects.type='P' ?

As Rob said there are no triggers on SYSTABLEs, but just to make you something clear about delete triggers in general is ,that you can "filter" the trggert event inside the trigger by selecting from...

Thanks all, After a bit of reflexion, I also think that the best would be to enable Audit on 'drop' command to get my answer. Thanks all again Simon

Re: What's WaitEventID 311

In the past I used to perform a lot of "cross-platform" dumps. If the database is huge, it can take many hours to complete. The last part of the "cross-platform" process can be very long. According to...

Re: LIKE bug in ASE 15.0.3?

Your sp_helpsort output would seem to indicate that you're using case sensitive sort orders in all servers. Also, if you were using case insensitive sort orders then I'd expect all of your tests to...
